Our story

Junction Cycling Club

What a whirlwind this whole thing has been. We have a website now. Crazy.

When making this website we contemplated how deep in the weeds we wanted to get with the story. One could say we reached a crux and didn't know what to do (real ones remember).

This whole thing started off with an Instagram post and an overwhelmingly positive amount of people looking to ride bikes at 7:30am on Saturday on the last weekend of summer in 2025. Fast forward to today, we feel like (sort of) we have a much better grip and a clear objective: offer unique experiences for everybody who rides bikes in Boston and beyond. Junction is for everyone, slow or fast. We offer social rides, we offer faster rides, and we offer some weird stuff in between – all while never taking anything too serious. Heck, our logo is a Strava map where we had no clue where we were going. Maybe that's the whole point.

A year ago we strongly felt there was a gap in the Boston cycling community. Particularly in the “community” part. We have set out to fix that and ride by ride we are slowly getting there. So many ideas… that will all eventually happen with a little bit of time.

If you're looking to make friends, Junction is the place for you. If you're looking to get better at riding your bike, Junction is the place for you. And most importantly, if you're looking to… you get it. Come ride and experience it for yourself. Weekly social rides. Monthly faster rides. And a little bit of everything in between.

Thanks for being a part of the team ❤️

FAQ

The things people ask before their first ride. If yours isn't here, come find us on Strava or Instagram.

Do I need to be a member?

No. You don’t need to be a member, you don’t need to know anyone, and you don’t need to be fast. The only thing to do before coming to a ride is sign the waiver. After that, show up at the start and ride with us.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes — once, before your first ride. It takes a minute and it covers you for everything after that. Sign the waiver on Strava.

Are helmets required?

Yes, always. If you turn up without one you’ll be asked to leave.

What kind of bike do I need?

Almost anything, with a few exceptions. No Bluebikes. No e-bikes, unless you’re riding one for disability assistance — otherwise you’ll be asked to leave. Your bike must have brakes.

Beyond that we genuinely don’t care. If you can hold the pace, your first Facebook Marketplace bike is as welcome as a $15k SL9.

Will I get dropped?

Most rides, if not all, are no-drop — and that works because people pick the ride that suits them. You don’t need to be fast, but you do need to be able to ride the one you signed up for. If it doesn’t feel like your speed, come to a different one.

I can hold the pace, but I’ve never ridden in a group and I’m new to cycling in Boston. What should I expect?

Come with a general sense of the places in and around greater Boston, and save the route to your phone or head unit before you join a ride.

Everything else we cover out loud right before we roll out — the route, safety, etiquette, and the rules of the road. Have a read through the City of Boston’s bike laws as well; we go over them at the start of every ride.

How do I know when the next ride is?

Strava. Dates and any changes go out there first — it's the live source.
